The CITAM Course was originally developed by professional Software and Hardware Asset Managers to codify a number of existing IAITAM professional development programs.  IAITAM’s Certification in IT Asset Management has evolved over the years to accommodate the changes in the profession and therefore the course has evolved as well. The CITAM Course, intended to guide individuals within the profession and align the needs of the organization with Information Technology for the benefit of the organization.  This hands-on course will allow professionals to review existing infrastructure and plan a real world IT Asset Management Program - one that is applicable to the global work place and inclusive of a widely dynamic range of issues as well as properly managing IT assets across their organizations.  The primary purpose of this course is to educate ITAM professionals to manage IT assets while aligning with the organizational business drivers that promote ROI, reduces risk and increases productivity.

The course addresses each of the Key Process Areas (KPA) identified within the IBPL that when combined, empowers an organization and maximizes the value of their IT assets.  The core processes that encompass the ITAM Program will be reviewed and the pertinent projects that will assist the organization in building a productive and profitable business unit will be addressed.

The 3 publications used during the course contain the essential breakdowns of the class and provide the attendee with the problem-solving skills and challenges that they will take back to their organization.

It is the mission of IAITAM to expand the knowledge of the IT Asset Management Profession.  We look forward to passing on that knowledge to every attendee that enters the training portals of our classrooms.

Course Objectives:

1) To educate ITAM professionals in the proper management of  IT assets while aligning with the organizational business drivers that will promote ROI, reduce risk and increase productivity.

2) The attendee will be able to understand and utilize the dependencies, relationships and benefits of the Key Process Areas (KPA) found within an effective IT Asset Management Program.

3) The attendee will be able to specify and define the duties and responsibilities necessary to be an effective IT Asset Manager.

4) The attendee will be able to obtain and display an understanding of the resources and commitment necessary to implement a fully functional IT Asset Management Program.

The course consists of the following components:

  • CITAM Course Manual
  • CITAM Course Student Workbook
  • CITAM Course Instructor Presentation Book
  • CITAM Instructor Daily Presentation and interaction with attendees
  • CITAM Organizational Projects and Program Implementation Workshop
  • CITAM Comprehensive Written Examination

Examination Criteria:

The CITAM certification is comprised of the cumulative efforts of the student workbook and the final day’s written examination.  Instructor(s) will collect completed workbooks before testing commences on the final day.  The workbooks will be returned with the student’s certification so that the student can orchestrate their creative efforts into their organization’s ITAM program.

The CITAM course is not designed for the novice IT Asset Manager and is quite homework intensive. Though there are no prerequisites mandated for CITAM registration, IAITAM strongly recommends prior CSAM/CHAMP certification and/or a well founded working knowledge of IT asset management.

The testing for the prestigious certification of CITAM is not rigorous, but does require perseverance and focus, much like the IT Asset Management job itself. The overall testing begins when the attendee walks through the facility doors as they receive the CITAM Manual, Presentation Book and Workbook. It is mandatory that the attendee be present for the entire class presentation and participate in discussions and workshop.

Each attendee must complete their respective workbook and return it to the IAITAM Instructor before breaking for lunch on Friday.  Nightly homework assignments utilizing the workbook will be issued daily.  Attendees are encouraged to study for the examination that will be administered on Friday afternoon. Upon returning to the classroom after lunch on Friday afternoon, the attendees will be given a short period to clear up any last-minute queries after which the exam will be administered.

The completed workbook constitutes 50% of the total certification grade.  The other 50% of the certification grade will be earned by passing the written examination with a minimum score of 85%.

The attendees will have an allotted time of 2 hours to complete the written examination. When the attendee is finished with the written examination, they will return their examination to the instructor.  The certification examination and workbooks will be graded after the completion of the course.

Combining the level of information retention from the class demonstrated through workbook completion and the diligence and perseverance required to achieve a minimum grade of 85% on the certification test shows why achieving the title of CITAM is such a coveted event.  Test results will be delivered first via email within 2-3 weeks, followed by certification awards and return of the competed workbook via mail “Welcoming you to the elite group of Certified IT Asset Managers”.

Certification Retesting

In the unfortunate event that an attendee was incapable of passing the course, the Instructor will notify the attendee.  The completed workbook will not be sent back to the attendee.  However, there are opportunities for retaking the test for the CITAM certification.  If the attendee chooses to retake the test, they must schedule it with IAITAM and all related travel costs will be at the attendee’s expense.

The first retake for an attendee is free of charge because the ultimate goal of IAITAM is to enhance the knowledge of each and every course attendee.  To that end, the Instructor will send a blank course workbook two weeks prior to the scheduled re-test for the attendee to complete.  The attendees must bring the completed workbook to the Instructor prior to testing.

Re-testing is available to an attendee once.  If the attendee fails to achieve their certification a second time, the attendee will be required to retake the entire course at their own expense.

It is the mission of IAITAM to expand the knowledge of the IT Asset Management Profession.  We look forward to passing on that knowledge to every attendee.
